Tunmise Abraham was sentenced to death by hanging by an Ado-Ekiti High Court on Wednesday, March 23, for raping and killing his landlady, Bukola Olanrewaju.
When the incident occurred in 2019, Olanrewaju, a mother of three, was alone at home after her husband had gone to work, according to an eyewitness statement provided in court.
Abraham is accused of breaking into the woman’s room, threatening her with a cutlass, and then rapping her.
The statement went on to say:
“The tenant departed the house after the act, but some of his possessions were discovered in the room, implying that he was the perpetrator.”
Mr Julius Ajibare, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who prosecuted the case on behalf of the state government, called four witnesses to testify.
Justice Monisola Abodunde stated Abraham was found guilty of raping and killing his landlady in Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti, in her ruling on the case. As a result, the judge sentenced him to death by hanging.
